Local Artist, Frank Duncan provided the top header design of old Central Fire Station for the Greensboro Firefighters History Book Website. Central Fire Station in Greensboro NC opened in 1926 at the inauguration of the city’s paid Fire Department. At that time the department employed 47 men in 8 companies to operate its 10 fire apparatus divided among 5 stations. Over the years the Station has served at various times as the site for Sunday school classes, a wedding, a funeral, band concerts, revivals, and during World War II housed up to 435 soldiers at one time. Many great firefighters have walked through those doors. If you would like a print of Old Central Station, please contact Larry Cockman at 336-509-6674 or lcockman@hotmail.com
